Compelling purpose: I am about helping people to see clearly for the sake of their personal freedom.
My grandmother told me when I was 18, and on my way to medical school, "But you are a writer dear!" At age 11 I had written an article that was published in our national newspaper, and I also wrote a weekly column for our local newspaper between ages 15-18. I didn’t realize at the time that that was unusual! I think that was what made my grandmother think that I might be born to be a writer, more than to be a doctor!
Well, I did go to medical school, and I did become a doctor, but I always had the feeling that there was something more for me to do, something more in line with my natural gifts and abilities. That something turned out becoming a life coach and later, writing a book about my experiences coaching people who had also experienced the feeling of not quite being on their right path.
While in the Leadership program of Coaches Training Institute, one of my leaders was Rick Tamlyn. He spoke about a workshop called Bigger Game which helped people discover what he called their 'compelling purpose'. I was very attracted by this term and decided to attend the workshop. Midway through the first of the 2 days, I went up to Rick and declared, "I want to become a Bigger Game trainer!" and within 6 months, I had done that!
I came to see by going to Coaches Training Institute to become a personal life coach, and then to the Bigger Game, that my Nana was correct! I wanted to help people, and myself, to see clearly, by writing a book about a condition that I had personally experienced.
I needed a lot of allies to accomplish my Bigger Game. I had 2 editors, many manuscript readers, a graphic arts designer and webmistress and a life coach help me to accomplish my goal. I also had a cheering section of Come in and Get Me allies, to keep me going to the end.
The book was released in May 2011!
