“When you have decided what you believe, what you feel must be done, have the courage to stand up and be counted.”
- Eleanor Roosevelt

Name of the Game: Teach kids to bake bread and feed hungry Arkansans.

Compelling Purpose: Encourage all kids to discover the joy of creating delicious, healthy food they can make themselves and share with others.

Kids Cookin’ for a Cause! is a program in which kids cook and bake for hungry Arkansans. Kids Cook!™ developed the program to benefit Kids’ Pantries that are served by Potluck Food Rescue. The Kids’ Pantry is Arkansas’ only charitable out-of-school meal program developed to ensure that at-risk youngsters have the opportunity to receive food for meals when school is not in session – throughout the year.
Here are summaries of our 2008-09 projects:

November 2008 - 900 dinner rolls – That is a lot of rolls! And that is how many rolls 46 Episcopal Collegiate School kids, 4 moms and 6 adults from the community made for Potluck’s Annual Holiday Food Share. That is enough for bags of rolls to go to 150 families, reaching approximately 450 people in Central Arkansas.

April 2009 - 660 scones – That is a lot of scones! And that is how many scones 35 Episcopal Collegiate School kids, 10 Cathedral School kids, 1 mom and 2 adults from the community made for Potluck’s Kids Pantry program during the month of April. That is enough for bags of scones to go to 110 kids and their families. Potluck, Arkansas’ food rescue organization, will distribute the scones to at-risk children in April.

Bake Bread for Kids! is part of the Kids Cookin’ for a Cause project sponsored by Kids Cook!™ and is supported by a variety of schools, local businesses and community volunteers. The kids get a cooking lesson and community service hours in exchange for their hard work to feed the hungry

Faith Anaya, founder of Kids Cook!™, created Kids Cookin’ for a Cause after taking the Bigger Game workshop in Chicago, Sept. 2008. Naming her Bigger Game and then having the patience to “let the game find her” were two key concepts that she took away from the Bigger Game workshop.
